On
April 7, 1952 Wilbert Smith hosted a meeting of
the Ottawa Interplanetary Society in Room 1233, #3
Building, at the National Research Council in
Ottawa Canada.
Smith
wrote what appeared to be an introduction of the
goals of the meeting.
Considerable interest was expressed in the Flying Saucer phenomena, which if real, might be a profitable line of study. It was generally felt that the group could undertake this work as being within its capabilities.
Invitations for the meeting were sent out to eighteen people from various Canadian government departments.
Those that attended included:
Dr. A.E. Covington - National Research Council Field Station
Dr. A.E. Douglas Division of Physics, National Research Council
Dr. G. Herzberg Director, Division of Physics, N. R. C. and later Nobel Prize Winner
Mr. K. Kendall - Research Technician, National Film Board
Mr. D.W.R. Mckinley N.R.C. Field Station
Dr. Peter Millman - Dominion Observatory
Dr. D.C. Rose Division of Physics, N.R.C. (person Smith approached with his anti-gravity experiment)
Wilbert Smith - Department of Transport
Dr. Ross Smyth - N.R.C. Field station
Dr. D.F. Stedman - Applied Chemistry Branch, N.R.C.
Mr. J.H. Thompson N.R.C.
Marked as O.K.
Mr. M.E. Flemming Department of Transport
Crossed out on List
Mr. R.F. Legget N.R.C.
Dr. Thiessen N.R.C.
Reported as too busy to attend.
Mr. F.T. Davies - (no Department listed but was with the Defense Research Board) Worked on early anti-gravity experiments with Smith.
Listed as did not attend? (Perhaps indicated no signature on sign-in sheet)
Mr. J.W. Cox Radio Physics Laboratory, D.R.B.
Dr. D.C. MacPhail Division of Mechanical Engineering, N.R.C.
Mr. J.W. Scott Superintendent Radio Physics Board, D.R.B.
Other than the sign-in sheet with the signatures on it, there are no other records of this group. Further, there is no other mention of the group in official records, or in Smith private files at the University of Ottawa Archives.
